Access to the Portage is easy by water, road and air.
The Portage Resort Hotel is the closest resort to Picton – just 15 minutes by boat on a direct route. We are the best serviced resort in the Sounds for transport of guests and their luggage. Let Portage Front Office know what time your guests will be arriving at Picton and Front Office will book and confirm the return water taxi for you.
In 2008 The Portage changed its boat transport service provider to the Cougar Line. This has increased the number of preferred supplier scheduled services to the resort.
The Cougar Line is based a short walk around the waterfront from the Picton Ferry Terminal.

It is possible to arrange for Groups or special guests to be met at the Ferry Terminal.
Guests are also able to disembark at the Picton Ferry Terminal to catch the ferry when leaving the resort.
Two helicopters at a time can land on our lawn or on the beach in front of the resort. It is 20 minutes flying time from Wellington Airport to Portage.
The Picton Floatplane service is also available from Porirua to The Portage, which is a wonderful way to arrive (see Packages).
The resort has tar sealed road access between Queen Charlotte and Kenepuru Sounds as well as tar sealed road from Picton and Blenheim. 1.25 hours driving on a sealed road from Picton to The Portage.
The closest link to Queen Charlotte Sound and Picton from the Kenepuru and the outer Sounds is at The Portage Resort, by crossing the historic Torea Saddle. Portage Resort has a bus which runs across the Saddle regularly all day.
Picton is the commercial centre of the Marlborough Sounds and is 25 minutes from Marlborough Airport and 15 minutes from Koromiko Airport. Transfers from airport to Picton are arranged for you by the resort using local shuttle services.
