Road Access to the Portage

It is easiest to reach The Portage by 15 minute direct boat transfer from Picton, the resort will arrange this for you.

If you prefer to drive to the resort we strongly recommend a 2 night stay as many of our guests have told us that the 1.5 to 2 hour drive each way for just one night is demanding.

Kenepuru Road is a sealed, winding road with beautiful bush and scenic views.

From Picton it is 30 minutes on Queen Charlotte Drive to the Linkwater turnoff (do not take the Anakiwa turnoff).

At Linkwater you turn onto Kenepuru Road and it is 45 mins to 1 hour to The Portage. The resort is very visible from the road.

Alternatively if you are travelling from Blenheim or Nelson, we recommend driving in from Havelock along Queen Charlotte Drive to Linkwater and following the Kenepuru Road to The Portage.

(Queen Charlotte Drive is the link road between Havelock and Picton.)
